Launderable Garment Program Costs

After posting this topic, NIF was contacted by several facilities regarding the process and reject rate assumptions EPRI applied to their comparative cost analysis. Two key factors affect costs for these programs: processing costs and launderable reject rates.

NIF investigated facility experience data for offsite processing and launderable garment service life (reject rates). From this, we developed a basic calculator for evaluating the key variables associated with launderable and disposable use. It is provided below as an applet and can also be downloaded as an Excel spreadsheet.

Reject Rates

NIF collected (year to date) reject rate data for launderable garments from a number of U.S. facilities in. Compilation of the data suggests that the average reject rate has been .5% to .6% for cloth, translating to a coverall life of about 175 washings.
